Indian Senna also known as Sonamukhi (Botanical name – Cassia angustifolia) is an annual leguminous herb cultivated extensively in the southern parts of the country for its pods and leaves which are used in Ayurveda as well as in modern system of medicines. Senna leaves is generally used for its laxative properties. In scientific study of Senna, anthraquinones, glycosides, sennosides, numerous minor sennosides have been identified, and all appear to contribute to the laxative effect. These compounds work as a laxative by smoothing & relaxing the tissues, as digested food moves through the intestines. It helps to eliminate Vitiated & putrefied Pitta through motion and gives relief in fever caused by excessive Pitta. Senna supports reduction of ascitis (fluid accumulation in stomach layers) with other medicines. Senna aids in removal of toxins from skin layer and removing it from intestines. It helps to remove extra phlegm from lungs and reduce intensity of cough.
The leaves and pods of Senna are known to contain sennosides, with reported levels ranging from 2.5% to 3.6%. Specifically, Sennoside B content in pods is around 2.7%, while in leaves it is approximately 1.83%

It is used for various kinds of disease processes and specially as a nervine tonic. Considering these facts many scientific studies were carried out and its adaptogenic / anti-stress activities were studied in detail. In experimental models it increases the stamina of rats during swimming endurance test and prevented adrenal gland changes of ascorbic acid and cortisol content produce by swimming stress. Pretreatment with Withania somnifera (WS) showed significance protection against stress induced gastric ulcers. WS have anti-tumor effect on Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell carcinoma. It was also found effective against urethane induced lung-adenoma in mice. In some cases of uterine fibroids, dermatosarcoma, long term treatment with WS controlled the condition. It has a Cognition Promoting Effect and was useful in children with memory deficit and in old age people loss of memory. It was also found useful in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's, Huntington's and Alzeimer's diseases. It has GABA mimetic effect and was shown to promote formation of dendrites. It has anxiolytic effect and improves energy levels and mitochondrial health. It is an anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic agent and was found useful in clinical cases of Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis. Large scale studies are needed to prove its clinical efficacy in stress related disorders, neuronal disorders and cancers.
Chemical Compositions
The biologically active chemical constituents of Withania somnifera (WS) include alkaloids (isopelletierine, anaferine, cuseohygrine, anahygrine, etc.), steroidal lactones (withanolides, withaferins) and saponins. Sitoindosides and acylsterylglucosides in Ashwagandha are anti-stress agents. Active principles of Ashwagandha, for instance the sitoindosides VII-X and Withaferin-A, have been shown to have significant anti-stress activity against acute models of experimental stress. Many of its constituents support immunomodulatory actions. The aerial parts of Withania somnifera yielded 5-dehydroxy withanolide-R and withasomniferin.

| Botanical Name | Moringa Oleifera |
Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera), the “miracle tree”, thrives globally in almost all tropical and subtropical regions, but it is believed to be native to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. They are an exceptionally good source of provitamin A, vitamins B and C, minerals (particularly Iron) and sulphur containing amino acids methionine and cysteine. It is commonly said that moringa leaves contain more Vitamin A than carrots, more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach, more Vitamin C than oranges, and more potassium than bananas,” and that the protein quality of Moringa leaves rivals that of milk and eggs. However, the leaves and stem of M. oleifera are known to have large amounts of their calcium bound in calcium oxalate crystals. Dried leaves have an oleic acid content of about 70%, which makes them suitable for making moisturizers.
Moringa’s peppery leaves are often eaten as a vegetable. They’re also dried and ground into a powder used in soups and curries. They have iron, potassium, and calcium. The leaves also have nine essential amino acids, and vitamins A, B, and C. They’re full of protein and can be used as a substitute for meat, fish, and eggs. Moringa leaves have been used to help treat malaria, arthritis, skin diseases, and diabetes.
